SCRIPS ARE BACK:
Scrip is a fundraising program that works while you shop. Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates (gift cards) that are used just like cash. You can use it to purchase food, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline. You receive full face value for the scrip you purchase and the school makes a percentage of the price (2% to 15%). Once a month you will receive a yellow order form with full instructions on purchasing and any bonus contributions for the month. Orders will be placed on the second Tuesday of the month. The first order form will go home next week.
PASSANTINO’S SUN FRESH CASH REGISTER TAPES:
Beginning Sept. 1, 2010 to March 30, 2011 Nativity School will be collecting cash register tapes from Passantino’s Sun Fresh Market at 23rd and Sterling. Just have your child drop them off in the school office. Turn then in as you get them – no need to wait till the end of the program. We will be able to redeem the tapes for educational equipment for our school.
SOCK IT TO POVERTY:
Help provide socks and underwear for the less fortunate. New socks and underwear are the most needed and least donated clothing items. Nativity students and parish will participate in the “Sock it to Poverty” collection benefiting the needy of Kansas City between Sept. 13th and the 22nd. We will have barrels in the front hall. The socks will be blessed at mass on the 23rd of September.

EDUCONNECT:
If you have not already requested a user ID and password to access your child’s progress reports, please email jnoland@nativityofmary.org. Please be patient with the teachers these next few weeks as they get things entered.
DIRECTORY CORRECTIONS:
The family listing as it will appear in the student directory was sent home Wednesday with the oldest in the family. Early Childhood received separate notes. Check backpacks for the notices. Corrections are due Wed., Sept. 8. E-mail addresses are recommended for easy communication.
FIREWORKS STAND FUNDRAISER UPDATE:
Last week’s article inadvertently omitted a very important supporter of our Special Needs program. Joe Arnone worked long and hard to make our stand the success that it was. We really appreciate Joe and Krista’s commitment to this event. Once again THANK YOU BOTH!!
PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK:
The Parent/Student Handbook went home last week with the oldest in the family. A calendar is included in the handbook. Please ask your child for it. Please go over the guidelines with your child(ren). Please sign and return the pink acknowledgement form by Sept. 10th.
NATIVITY POLO SHIRTS & SWEATSHIRTS:
Order forms for Nativity Polo shirts and sweatshirts went home on Tuesday. These are the ONLY sweatshirts that can be worn as part of the uniform and must be purchased through the school. Please send in your orders since we are ordering as we accumulate orders.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES/SPORTS AND EXTENDED CARE:
Children leaving Extended Care to attend an activity/sport will need an adult leader to sign them out. A written authorization from you releasing your child/children to the adult leader is required.
Children returning to Extended Care from an activity/sport will need to have the adult leader walk and sign your child in. You will need to make arrangements with the adult leader.
WHEELIE TENNIS SHOES:
These shoes may not be worn at school or any building on campus. This includes the gym. They destroy the wax finish of our terrazzo floors. They are also hazardous when the wheels come loose when least expected. We ask that organization leaders and youth group leaders (Scouts & Camp Fire) ask their members not to wear them during any event they attend in the school building.
8TH GRADE FUNDRAISER:
The 8th grade class is selling Tasty Batters Cookie Dough and Great American products from the Peace & Joy catalogs such as creative children’s projects, exclusive kitchen gifts, premium candles, specialty gift wrap and more. This will help fund our 8th grade retreat that we take every year and all other 8th grade events. The sale runs from Aug. 26th thru Sept. 10th. If you have any questions or would like to see a catalog, please see an 8th grader, Mrs. Myers or the school office. Thank You, 8th grade
Nativity of Mary School is selling tickets to Macy’s Shop for A Cause Event that is taking place on Saturday, October 17th. This is national day of support that Macy’s participates in to help support non-profit organizations in the community. For a $5 donation you receive an all day shopping pass for 20% off of regular, sale, and clearance merchandise (10% in the home store), in addition there is an extra coupon for 25% off any single item purchase. All donations will be kept by Nativity of Mary School to support needs of our “specials” programs such as Computer, Spanish, and PE. Please send in a note and $5.00 if you would like to purchase a card to the attention of Coach Felz and she will return the cards to you. If you have any questions please feel free to contact her at 353-0284 ext. 303.
